Kirkwood Schools Need To Revise Phone Policy
As a professor, education is one of the values I hold dearest. My wife and I moved to Kirkwood because we wanted to provide our son with the best education possible. And for that reason, I ask the Kirkwood School District to reconsider and revise its cell phone policy.

Movement Growing Toward District-Wide Policy On Cell Phones
In response to research suggesting cell phone use negatively impacts student learning, a movement is growing to keep mobile phones out of Kirkwood schools. A group of concerned citizens on Aug. 12 delivered a memo to Kirkwood School District Superintendent David Ulrich urging the district to review existing research and solicit input from stakeholders to develop and implement more thorough cell phone policies.

Support Keeping Cell Phones Out Of Schools
I teach listening skills as part of my job. To teach the importance of listening, we ask people to engage in a pair activity where one person shares a problem and the other person acts out bad listening. What do they do, almost without fail, when asked to be terrible listeners? They reach for their phones and stare at them.

Passing The Buck On KHS Cell Phone Usage
It is well documented and common sense tells us that cell phone usage in the classroom is distracting and simply not conducive to learning.
Regarding the cell phone policy at Kirkwood High School, the Webster-Kirkwood Times recently reported that a Kirkwood School District administrator stated that each high school teacher currently has the autonomy to manage cell phone use in their own classroom, and students are expected to respect teacher guidelines if the teacher does not allow phone usage.
